We’ve had a Wii for a couple years now, but it was only recently that we were introduced to Brewii and the Homebrew channel. Honestly, we had gotten somewhat tired of most of the Wii games we had, and we rarely played it anymore. However, we now spend more time playing our Wii than playing our PS3.
FEATURES:
Briefly, Brewii is a tool that allows you to do various things on your Wii that you otherwise couldn’t. The product claims to allow you to “unlock” your Wii, but “unlock” is a bit vague and really doesn’t tell you everything that you’re getting.
To make it simple, here’s a list of just some of the best features:
1. Homebrew Channel – Personally, this would be enough reason for us to purchase this product again. With the Homebrew channel, you can download, use, and play almost countless FREE applications and games. (See here for a list). The variety of applications and games is huge and is constantly evolving. We have a soft spot for many of the classics (Mario, Zelda, etc.).
2. Record Games – Because we’ve only had this product for a short time, we haven’t reaped the benefit of this feature yet. However, we invariably lose games because of scratched and damaged disks (at least we don’t need to blow on the cartridge anymore). Now that we can record all of ourgames to USB drives, they load faster, and we’ll never have to worry about losing them.
3. DVDs: Although you may not know it, your Wii can play DVDs. For one reason or another, the systems do not ship with this feature enabled, so only by ‘unlocking’ your Wii can you take full advantage.
There are many other features (streaming internet radio, download Wii cheats, etc.), but the 3 features listed above are the ones we’ve found most useful.
REVIEW VERDICT:
Brewii is an excellent product that prolongs the enjoyment and enhances the experience of your Wii. The product is easy to use and took us less than 10 minutes to install. Everything worked the first time we tried, and we’ve had no problems since.
For the price (less than the cost of many new games), we can honestly say that it’s been more worth the money than any individual game we’ve bought, both in terms of overall enjoyment and value.
